Wednesday 6th January 2016:
As you are aware, Caerphilly Leisure Centre is still currently closed for redevelopment works with an, as yet, still unknown finish date. He also swam in the 50m Backstroke, swimming a time of 53.57 which was just a fraction under his PB of 53.59. Not a bad effort with four PBs from 4 swims! Well done Sam!

Saturday 2nd May:
A fantastic set of results at the Swansea Stingrays gala in Penlan today. We had 6 swimmers competing today with two debutantes and one other making their first appearance in the main session.

Owen made the step up from the novice section to the main events and was joined by Sion who was making his debut. Both competed in the 25m freestyle and swam great times (Owen - 1:10.98 and Sion - 33.59). Sion then competed in the 25m backstroke clocking 58.62 while Owen swam his first ever competitive 50m freestyle finishing at 2:30.85. Both swimmers enjoyed the support and help of their team members Seren, Ellis, Olivia and Sam who were cheering them on before their main session. Many thanks in particular to both Ellis and Sam who helped with the warm up and the marshaling of Sion and Owen, lending their experience to help guide them through the gala.

The main session followed. We had one swimmer making their debut, Seren. She started off in the 50m Backstroke, swimming a time of 1:33.85, though as we are still awaiting official results, we suspect that a slight false start may have resulted in a DQ, regardless, it was a good swim. She then clocked a 1:53.88 in the 100m freestyle. Her final swim saw her finish in 1st in the 50m freestyle in time of 52.63.

Olivia had a stormer! She made huge PBs in all races. Her 50m backstroke came in at 55.68, her 100m backstroke, 2:11.52 and finally, her 50m freestyle was swum in a time of 48.34. Sam also had a great event with three races resulting in three PBs. His 50m Backstroke time was 53.59, his 100m freestyle was 1:42.71 and finally his 50m freestyle was clocked at 48.14. Finally, Ellis had a good meet too, with a little bit of experimentation thrown in at the middle. His first race was the 50m Butterfly which he swam in a PB time of 41.66. Next, Ellis experimented with a new event, the 200m Individual Medley which he swam in 3:18.64. The toll of that race took it out of him slightly in the 50m freestyle, though he did still swim a fantastic time of 32.49.

We also had two relays, which were a bit of fun which, until we get official results to confirm, we pulled in a fourth and third.

All in all, it was a fantastic meet with some great swims and even greater times. Well done swimmers, and many thanks to the parents for cheering them on.

Saturday 4th April:
A reminder that there will be no swimming tonight as we have a one week closure for the Easter holidays.

Saturday 25th April:
We took nine swimmers with us today to the Swansea Stingrays gala at Penlan Leisure Centre in Swansea. We had two swimmers making their competitive debuts, Olivia and Abi.

The event started off with the novice events. Owen and Abi both swam in the 9m freestyle and backstroke. They both swam independently and thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. Owen took a 1st and 2nd place while Abi left with a 2nd and 3rd.

The final novice events were contested by Olivia. She started off with the 25m freestyle coming in 4th. She then moved onto her more favoured events, 25m and 50m backstroke. She swam fantastically and won two first places.

The main event featured swimmers who had competed in competitive events for the Dragons before. The most pleasing part of the day was that everyone had at least one personal best. We came home with a bag full of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons.

Everyone performed well and were great representatives for the club. Many thanks to all parents for cheering everyone on and the Swansea Stingrays for hosting the gala.

The results have been placed on the 'results' page but we are awaiting confirmation from the official results.

We had great fun yesterday and today at our sponsor's HotSpring South West and Wales grand opening pool-tastic weekend. Our swimmers had the opportunity to try out the various spas and even test themselves against the Poseidon Swim Spa. Sunday even saw assistant coach Rhys have a go, proving to the swimmers that he can actually swim (kind of...)! After posing for a photo with Nik Miles and the team at HotSpring South West and Wales as they presented us with a cheque for £650, we also then received our new kit with club and sponsor logo on.

Below is a video of some of our swimmers testing themselves against the Poseidon Swim Spa.

Sunday 14th September 2013:
After the exploits of yesterday, 7 of our swimmers joined up with our close friends to swim in the Caerphilly County Swim Squad's 2013 meet. CCSS are of course coached by our very own head coach Peter Keys. Due to the meet being a three day event and our swimmers having competed yesterday, there was only scope for them to swim one event each. Ben Pritchard was first up, swimming in the 25m freestyle in a time of 27.22, an excellent swim just a couple of seconds under yesterday's big PB. Adam, Ellis and Laurence swam against each other in the 50m freestyle next with Ellis touching first in 47.22 (PB), Adam second in 58.64, just a fraction under yesterday's PB and Laurence third in 1:03.19. Sam and Matthew faced each other in the next race with Matthew touching second in 41.71, a tiny fraction under yesterday's PB. Sam touched third with a time of 51.17 (PB). Our last swimmer was Catherine, swimming in the 50m freestyle, touching in third, dipping under 2 minutes for the first time ever - 1:58.12 (PB). Well done to all for a fantastic weekend!

Saturday 14th September 2013:
We took 10 swimmers to the Bridgend Sharks gala held at Pencoed Leisure Centre today. Our first swimmers were two debutants, Jade Pepper and Owen Turner who were both swimming in the 12.5m novice race. Both swimmers swum fantastically with each picking up a silver medal. Ben Pritchard was up next in the 25m freestyle picking up a silver in a time of 25.19 (PB). Catherine Gordon-Roberts then swam a 10 second PB of 2.04.44 (PB) picking up a silver in the 50m backstroke.

Alexandra Lidell stormed home for gold in the 50m backstroke in a time of 1:04.22 (PB). Three Dragons swimmers were in the same race next, the 50m backstroke. Sam Baulch swam a PB time of 58.12 (PB) but was unfortunately disqualified. This meant that Ellis was bumped up to Bronze in a time of 1:03.19 (PB) with Thomas Pepper finishing in 5th in 1.25.24 (PB). Mathew Wren was up next swimming 53.28 in the 50m backstroke finishing 4th. Adam Casey swam the 50m Butterfly in a time of 1:21.81 (PB) but was sadly disqualified.

Catherine kicked off the second session with a fantastic PB in the 100m backstroke, the first time she has swum that event in competition. She finished 5th in a time of 4:35.75 (PB). Adam swam in the 50m breaststroke in a time of 1:22.71 (PB) but we believe he may have been disqualified. Alexandra swum her first competitive 100m freestyle, finishing 5th in a time of 2:11.50 (PB). Another three in one race came up next, with the Dragons picking up a 1-2-3 in the 100m freestyle; Ellis (Gold) 1:54.03 (PB), Sam (Silver) 2:00.00 (PB) and Thomas (Bronze) 2:01.00 (PB).

Matthew picked up a bronze in the 100m freestyle in a time of 1:36.34 (PB). Alex’s last race was the 50m freestyle, again storming to gold in a time of 55.38 (PB). Adam and Ben then picked up a 1-2 finish in the 50m freestyle with Adam 1st in 57.03 (PB) and Ben in silver (waiting official time). Ellis got another gold in the next 50m freestyle race in a time of 49.28 (PB). Sam and Thomas then faced each other in the next heat with Thomas taking silver 51.15 (PB) and Sam bronze in 52.16 (PB). Matthew Wren then swum the final individual race of the day, picking up 4th in a time of 41.44 (PB). Ellis, Sam, Thomas and Matthew teamed up for the 4 x 50m freestyle relay with the team finishing 4th or 5th.

We are waiting on official results to be confirmed but this may take some time.

Congratulations to all!

Friday 13th September 2013:

Saturday 19th January 2013:
Due to the bad weather, there will be no swimming tonight. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

Saturday 10th November:
We took six swimmers to the Pembrokeshire Puffins gala today including three debutantes The squad consisted of experienced swimmer Catherine Gordon-Roberts; two swimmers making their second competitive appearance in Rhys Harris and Sam Baulch and three complete newbies, Alexandra Liddell, Ben Pritchard and Ellis Underwood.

The event started off for us with Alexandra picking up gold in the 25m backstroke. The boys then stood up to the mark in the 25m backstroke with next Dragons performer Ellis matching Alexandra’s gold with one of his own! Rhys then swam in the next heat, picking up a very good bronze from the outside lane.

We had a slight hiccup with the next race as Catherine caught her leg entering the pool so was unable to swim that event. Alexandra then had her second race, picking up silver in the 50m freestyle. Ellis then mirrored Alexandra again, picking up silver in the boy’s 50m freestyle. Rhys then went in the next heat and won a fantastic gold medal. Sam then swam in the next heat, picking up 4th with a fantastic PB.

The second session started off with Catherine swimming in the 50m backstroke, picking up a very good time, especially after the dramas of the morning session. Sam then had a busy few minutes, setting a PB in the 50m backstroke, picking up bronze and then having to jump straight off the podium into his next race, the 100m freestyle. Despite the effort produced minutes previously in the backstroke, Sam managed to set a 7 second PB in the 100m freestyle.

Alexandra had her final swim of the day, completing the full house by picking up bronze in the 25m freestyle. After a very long and patient wait, Ben then had his moment to shine in the 25m freestyle. Despite being the youngest by some distance, and the smallest, Ben stormed through the water picking up silver. The last race for our swimmers was the race off between Ellis and Rhys in the 25m freestyle. Ellis managed to pick up his full house by collecting a bronze. Unfortunately, Rhys was caught between two much bigger and older swimmers and the waves off them caused him to swallow water and filled up his goggles. Despite this, he continued and completed the race with a brave effort.

All in all it was a fantastic day and it was great to see the wonderful performances and team spirit from the swimmers and parents.

Results can be found in the Results section.

Sunday 16th September:
We took two of the swimmers who competed yesterday to our very good friends and venue sharers, Caerphilly County Swim Squad and their club meet which was held at our home, Caerphilly Leisure Centre. Saturday 15th September:
We took five swimmers to the 2012 Bridgend Sharks Gala today held at Pencoed Leisure Centre. The squad included two competitive debutants, Sam Baulch and Rhys Harris. We were assisted by volunteer coach and Olympic Torch bearer Rebecca Dyer.

Every race resulted in a PB which is a fantastic effort from all involved. Our debutants had a great event, Rhys picked up 3 golds from 3 races and Sam got a full house from his 3 races; 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze. Other swimmers who swam today and picked up 100% PB’s were Catherine Gordon-Roberts, Laurence Perks and Nathan Lewis.

There was even time for Rebecca to compete in the coach’s race, putting in a respectable time in the 50m freestyle!

Well done to all!
